(PITTSBURGH, February 13, 2018) - Greg Heibert knows how generous the people of Pittsburgh can be.
"We lost everything in a flood back in 2004 and then lost everything in a fire 10 years later," Heibert said. "The community was there for my family in our time of need, and I want to make sure we continue to pay it forward."
Heibert, who has owned a local Sears Carpet Cleaning business since 2001, will team up with the Salvation Army on its annual Bundle-Up Campaign.
Over the past 30 years, Project Bundle-Up has provided new winter clothing for more than 275,000 people in need throughout Pittsburgh and surrounding communities. Starting March 1st through May 31st, Heibert will donate 10 percent of every carpet cleaning job to the cause.
"When our team gives back to others it engages our technicians and office staff in a special way, bringing them joy as they become part of something bigger than themselves," Heibert said.
Andrew Cader, director of Project Bundle-Up, said safe and warm clothing isn't the only result of Project Bundle-Up. "Intangibly, children and seniors receive the much-needed benefit of knowing that they are cared about. Children's self-esteem is improved when they don't have to go to school wearing hand-me-down coats and boots, and when caring adults spend time listening to them and talking with them," Cader said.
He said public support from business owners like Heibert create a sense of community among many who can feel left out. Heibert hopes other business owners will look for opportunities to get involved.
